06-19-2018 - New WAF added to help prevent attacks
On June 15, 2018 at 23:01 an attack was launched against our DNS Management panel. This attack lasted for approximately 6 hours and ultimately caused an overflow on a Dynamic DNS update service page which had corrupted some DNS data.
After determining what happened on the day of June 16, 2018 a restore of previous data was done which had an adverse affect on the resolution of DNS for some customers. There was an approximate time of 31 minutes which some customers DNS could not be resolved. We have corrected this security issue on this Dynamic DNS update page and will be sunsetting this service at the end of July 2018 If users would like to update their dynamic IP Address via a script or automated program after July they can do so by requesting access to our API. To further prevent issues like this from occurring we have implemented a WAF (Web Application Firewall) for added security so this type of incident will never happen again. For our enterprise DNS customers that experienced outages or degradation in service you can request SLA service credits by making a written request in the helpdesk

CloudfloorDNS integrates GEO URL Forwarding options into GEO DNS Director Service
October, 26 2016 09:00 AM Eastern Standard Time
BURLINGTON, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–CloudfloorDNS, a global Managed DNS and Domain Management service provider, announced today that it has added GEO URL Forwarding options to its Enterprise GEO DNS Director service. CloudfloorDNS is an Everbridge (NASDAQ: EVBG) company.
As organizations increasingly move to the Cloud and utilize CDN and SaaS applications, DNS settings become more complex with multiple CNAMES that may not be compatible with traditional DNS and GEO DNS services. Organizations utilizing the CloudfloorDNS GEO DNS Director without URL options would be limited to GEO routing A-Records to IP addresses only.
By using the GEO DNS Director with URL Forwarding, customers can discover the precise geographic location of web visitors and send them a different URL or site designed for their location such as language, currency, pricing and other content that is more appealing to the local audience. For example: a customer in the US might be sent to one website with pricing in USD while a visitor from Mexico sees the pricing in MXN and web content in their local language. Delivering custom localized content including language and currency keeps visitors engaged which in turn leads to higher conversion rates.
“Geographic DNS responses are only fractionally accurate and do not respond with much more than an IP Address or CNAME. DNS Director with URL Forwarding using a direct http(s) connection touches the client directly and a more precise geographic location can be established among other information useful to our clients,” said Jeff Cronstrom, Sr. Director of DNS Engineering at CloudfloorDNS. “This new addition of URL forwarding puts more power in our customer’s hands at the DNS level and gives more finite control on what content their web visitors and customers are presented with.”

CloudfloorDNS Server and Performance Monitoring Integrates into the Everbridge Unified Critical Communications Platform
February 10, 2016 09:25 AM Eastern Standard Time
BURLINGTON, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–CloudfloorDNS, a global Managed DNS and Domain Management service provider, announced today that it has integrated its Netmon™ Server and Network performance monitoring platform into Everbridge’s SaaS-based Unified Critical Communications platform.
As outages and other IT incidents occur, organizations and individuals utilizing the CloudfloorDNS Netmon monitoring platform can use the server and performance monitoring solution to promptly notify the right IT professionals and on-call staff via the Everbridge IT Alerting solution. The integration enables Netmon users to send alerts to the right team members, as well as to publish alerts to a variety of social media platforms, such as Slack, Twitter and other popular services.
By using the Netmon platform along with the Everbridge IT Alerting solution, a CloudfloorDNS customer can leverage Netmon Server alerts to trigger the Everbridge Unified Critical Communications platform to send multimodal communications. This helps to minimize the Mean Time to Know (MTTK) by engaging the right experts as quickly as possible and supplying them with the most up-to-date information, in order to help solve the IT incident. In addition to notifying users via the Everbridge IT Alerting platform, the CloudfloorDNS DNS Failover can automatically fail the server, website or app to a live backup, to reduce any possible service outage.
“We are excited about the integration of such a strong notification and alerting platform into our Netmon server monitoring,” said Jeff Cronstrom, Director of DNS and Operations at CloudfloorDNS. “CloudfloorDNS has over 15 different methods for determining a server failure or degraded application performance – and now with the power of the Everbridge platform, our clients can have confidence that the incident will be identified and resolved quicker than ever before.”

12-19-2014 - Holiday Hours
Happy holidays to all our clients around the globe.
We will be closing our office at 1700 Friday 19th December for the start of the holiday period. We will re-open as normal on the 5th of January. During this time, emergency support will be available via the ticket system as usual.
We hope this holiday season provides you all a chance to enjoy time with family and friends, and look forward to a new and prosperous new year.
10-21-2014 - 2 factor authentication now available
2 factor authentication is now available to all accounts and can be enabled from the profile page (my account menu, my profile).
2 factor authentication requires the use of the third party Google Authenticator or compatible application and will require you enter a special one time code each time you login, in addition to your normal user name and password. With 2 factor authentication enabled, even if someone steals your password, they will not be able to login to your account.
We encourage the use of this technology in order to increase security for users. Be aware that once enabled, it will not be possible to reset your password unless you also have the correct authentication codes. Be aware that if you loose your ability to authenticate (loose your phone for example), for security reasons, it is not a simple matter to gain access to your account again.
09-29-2014 - SPF Record type Deprecated
We would like to draw our dns users attention to the following regarding SPF type records
https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc7208#page-49
Earlier this year we added the ‘SPF’ record type to our DNS interface and systems. This was done due to demand from users, despite our recommendation users stick with TXT. Our official stance and our reply to most users was to use TXT records instead and the reasons were typically explained.
We would like to draw users attention to RFC7208, which essentially now officially depreciates the use of SPF type record in favor of the TXT type record for SPF and provides similar reasons to the ones we explained to users when querying why we did not support/recommend their use.
We will leave SPF in the interface as some users have in fact now utilised the type, but we would recommend anyone using the records to read the RFC and stick to the standard TXT SPF type.
09-15-2014 - Bitcoin now accepted for pre-funding accounts
Users can now prefund their accounts using Bitcoin. From the ‘my account’ menu, ‘fund my account’. Select the amount in GBP you wish to deposit. The appropriate amount in Btc will be shown along with a QR code for easy payment etc.
Please note that it takes 45-60 minutes usually to credit your account for Bitcoin payments. This is due to the need to ‘verify’ the transactions.
06-10-2014 -.UK Domain Launch
As of today users can apply to register .uk domains with Nominet. These are shorter versions of the popular .co.uk domains. Whilst registration of these names is now freely available, Nominet has taken the step of initially reserving the .uk version of the domain that has a matching .co.uk or other existing .uk tld for the original recipient of that name. Please note that when searching for .uk names via our site, whilst they may show as available, they may also show as ‘reserved for registrant of xxx.co.uk’. This means that _only_ the registrant of that name is eligible to register the .uk domain. If you are the registrant and are entitled to register the name, it is _very_ important that the information you supply for the new registrant match _exactly_ the information on record for the existing name. The following rules must be met
To exercise a right to a .uk domain name the registrant name, street 1 address, postcode, country code and email
will need to match exactly the details of the third level domain name with the right. When making this check the
following will apply:
• The check will be case insensitive
• All abbreviations, single spaces, accents or foreign characters, apostrophes, full stops, commas or other
punctuation marks must match exactly
We suggest applicants check WHOIS from the www.nominet.org.uk website to determine what contact information nominet have on record for any domains.
Please note that in addition to the registrant and contact details needing to match _exactly_ the details of the qualifying registrant, it is possible that some domains registered a long time ago with poor quality contact information may require fixing before you can register the .uk version of the name. Typical examples we are seeing is where names are registered to individuals with fake names (company, ‘webmaster’, etc.). To change the registrant on a domain you will need to contact Nominet directly.
Either the registrant or the address for service for second level domains must have a country code of GB, GG, JE or IM
Due to the likely large volume of unqualified applications, we _will not_ be offering refunds for users that clearly apply for names they are not entitled to or do not follow these guidlines. This is to discourage the amount of clearly invalid applications.
06-06-2014 - New Features - SPF Type and client_subnet options
We would like to announce a some new features over the next few weeks for our dns services. The first 2 of which are SPF record type support and new server client_subnet support.
SPF Support – This will allow you to add the relatively new SPF record type to your domains dns. Most people use TXT spf records and these are backwardly compatible with everything. There is however a newer SPF type that whilst used in an identical way to the TXT SPF record will provide only the SPF record rather than all the matching TXT records in your zone. This can make your dns a bit more effiecient for clients that do query the new type. You might like to consider duplication of your TXT spf record, if you have one, into the newer SPF type. Note – We don’t recommend removing your TXT spf in favour of SPF as not all clients support the SPF type, nor look for it.
Client subnet matching – With the advent of large public recursive dns services such as Google, some challenges in geo location occur. This is because whilst traditionally you expect the clients dns resolver to be reasonably geographically representative of where the user is, with public recursive networks that are global, this is not always the case. To resolve this, there is now a new method that some providers like google are now using to encode the clients IP address within the dns request. This enables us to detect and more correctly identify the users geographic location, even if the resolver they use is very far away from the user. This will greatly increase the accuracy of the geographic statistics we provide as well as the geo location services.
The updates are rolling out across the network over the next few weeks. SPF support is live in the interface now if you wish to start using it (it will be functional as the roll-out proceeds).
We expect to be able to inform you of further new features shortly.
04-23-2014 - WHOIS Email Contact Validation
Due to new ICANN rules As of January 1, 2014, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has mandated that all ICANN accredited registrars begin verifying the WHOIS contact information for all new domain registrations and Registration contact modifications. This is done via the registry sending a email to the listed whois contact asking them to verify the contact information by clicking a link in the email. The existing contact information will be displayed in the email. All you need do to verify your domain is click the link in the email – nothing further. If the displayed information is out of date, please login to your account via the CloudfloorDNS web site and update your contact information.
IF YOU DO NOT VALIDATE YOUR DOMAIN WHEN REQUESTED IT WILL STOP WORKING.
04-11-2014 - Heartbleed SSL vulnerability
We are getting many queries regarding the recent publicity around the heartbleed vulnerability in OpenSSL implementations and clients asking if their accounts with us are effected. To answer these questions, no, they are not. The web technology including this web site that caries unencrypted user data used on our platform does not utilise the vulnerable packages.
As a precaution, if you believe you have used the same password for your account on this web site or related services as you have with other third party services and feel those may have been compromised, we encourage you to change your account password on our site using the my account, my profile option .
Regards,
Cloudfloordns support.
